Spades Bidding Examples

Please send other examples that you would like me to post and tell you what I would bid to me at

june @ webpanda.us

The Perfect Spades hand is having every one of the 13 spades cards. I have not seen that happen.

I would bid 3 in this hand. 2 Aces and 1 King.

Ace King 8 6 Queen 7 4 2 Ace 10 9 3 2

I would bid 4 on this hand. The top 3 spades and the Ace of Diamonds. Its possible you might get a trick with the King of Clubs but since you are long suited it will probably be trumped.

Ace King Queen 7 5 King 10 9 6 5 4 Ace Queen

This is a pretty safe 3 bid. Wait until the Ace of Diamonds plays then play the King.  Lead the Ace of Hearts, then trump the next heart hand unless your partner has the King of Hearts, otherwise slough off a junk card like the 9 of Diamonds. You might get a second heart trick with your last spade card so that would make the bid 4.

What a junk hand this is but since you have 4 spades its a 1 bid and hope you get it. Perhaps your partner will help you and you can slough off the spades so you don't take bags.

You might get 3 tricks by trumping Diamonds since you do not have any. But if your partner has the Ace or King or both you must wait on trumping hearts. The Ace always takes a trick. Its unlikely the King of Hearts will take a trick but you can try.
